The issue is not if the key is authentic, that was already known by installing FMI with the key. Did you asked if the authentic key has already been registered?
Only one person can own one license. A transfer of license has to be approved by FMI. Another person may be the owner of the authentic key you purchased.
To expand on my call to FMI here are some more details. I asked if I had a legal copy. I gave him my license Key. He said he would check and was gone for about a minute and came and said it was legal and to use it with a clean conscience.
